研究テーマ

　日本近世（安土・桃山～江戸時代）の社会と国家を対象に、その仕組みや生活のあり様についての研究をおこなっている。また、近江の歴史を題材としながら、近江学研究の構築をめざしている。

（１）江戸時代の近畿地方の農村社会を対象にした研究

　江戸時代の農村社会研究において、共同体（村社会）が担った村民（百姓）にとっての消極的評価を批判し、この時代の村社会が自治的・自律的側面を強く持ったことを明らかにしている。

（２）村絵図や都市図・屏風絵を題材にした歴史景観の研究

　江戸時代の村絵図や都市図、屏風絵などを歴史研究の研究資料として活用する作業を進めている。これらの題材は、当該社会の復元に有用な資料である だけでなく、そこには、絵師の美意識をフィルターにした、当時の空間認識・社会認識が描き込まれているという点も明確になってきた。

（３）江戸時代の国家と社会形成、自然と社会の関係についての包括的な研究

　江戸時代の日本社会が、日本史全体のなかでどのような位置を占め、どんな意味をもったかを、現代社会と対比させながら研究している。人間社会のみならず、人間と自然との関係を重視することも課題とする。

（４）近江をフィールドにした「近江学」の研究

　自治体史編纂事業に参加しながら、近江国（滋賀県）の歴史・文化の特色を「近江学」として総括する方法について研究している。

Topics of research

Research on the society and government and their structures and lifestyles of pre-modern Japan is conducted. Also aims to build Omi studies with the history of Omi as subject matter.

(1)　Research on the agricultural society of Kinki region in the Edo Period
In the village society study of the Edo Period, criticized the fact that the proactive aspects for villagers (farmers), which the community (village society) played a role in, were disregarded, and revealed that a village society during this period had a strong autonomous and self-governing aspect.

(2)　Research on the historical landscape using village scenes, urban maps and folding screen pictures as subject matters
The work of utilizing village scenes, urban maps and folding screen pictures of the Edo Period as research materials for historical research is being carried out. These subject matters not only serve as useful material for reconstructing the society in question, but have also made it clear that they depict the awareness of space and society of that time through the filter of the artists' aesthetics.

(3)　Across-the-board research on the government and social shaping, and the relationship between nature and society in the Edo Period
Research is conducted on the position Japanese society of the Edo Period held in Japanese history in general and what significance it held by making a comparison with modern society. The task is to also emphasize not only human society, but also the relationship between man and nature.

(4)　Research on Omi studies in Omi
Research is conducted on the method of summarizing the characteristics of the history and culture of Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture) as Omi Studies, while participating in the Autonomous Community History Project.
